Guide Dogs for the Blind: Residence Hall

Location: San Rafael, California     Completed: 2013

A new 26,000 sf facility designed to facilitate the training and partnership of visually impaired clients and their guide dogs.  The complex program includes 18 guest suites, dining hall, commercial kitchen, living room, student lounge, training classrooms, student fitness center and staff offices.  The design of the new residence hall was predicated on simple way-finding.  The building is organized around a central garden atrium that provides privacy for students while working with their dogs.
