Stuart Hall School for Boys

Location: San Francisco, CA     Completed: 2010

This project involved the complete renovation and reconfiguration of a 19th century mansion used as a K-8 independent school.   The historic brick envelope, roof, floor plates, and essential historic finishes were preserved as the framework for a new 20,000 sf state of the art educational facility.  The brick shell and foundation underwent a full seismic upgrade, new mechanical and electrical systems were installed along with an elevator.  Classrooms and offices were carefully detailed to highlight preserved historic finishes juxtaposed with the modern programmatic needs of the school.   The exterior of the building was fully restored, and a new pedestrian courtyard was created to facilitate pedestrian flow between campus buildings.
